The Branscomb Family Foundation

The Foundation was chartered as a non-profit corporation under the laws of Colorado on June 10, 1986. The corporation is organized "to promote and fund charitable, religious, scientific, literary and educational endeavors within the United States of America." It is structured to qualify donors for a tax exemption under section 501 c 3 of the Internal Revenue Code, and the IRS ID number is 13-3355618. The BFF should not be confused with a foundation of the same name chartered in Texas.

The BFF is pleased to receive tax exempt contributions to the projects that memorialize the work and memory of Anne W. Branscomb. There are four such projects:

The Anne Wells Branscomb Scholarships at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study, Harvard University, provides critical opportunities for undergraduate women to engage import issues of the day, mentored by faculty and fellows of the Institute. Each year from 5 to 9 awards are made. Over $200,000 in gifts from the BFF and from friends and colleagues of Anne Branscomb finance the project.

The Anne Wells Branscomb Garden Terrace in the new Wilkenson Public Library in Telluride, Colorado is a large, enclosed terrace planted with the mountain wild flowers she loved so much. The Foundation and many friends from Colorado gave $50,000 for this project. Contributions make possible programs such as music, art, poetry, and lectures that benefit the community.

In Milledgeville, GA, the 1835 Governor's Mansion, in which Anne grew up is being renovated and a new garden at the Mansion will be dedicated to her memory in late spring 2006, to be known as the Anne Wells Branscomb Gardens. The Mansion was the residence of the President of the Georgia State College for Women, a position her father Guy Herbert Wells held. The College is now Georgia College and State University.

The staff lounge in the renovated Concord Free Library has been named for Anne Wells Branscomb, as a result of gifts from friends and the Foundation. Her books can be found shelved in the Concord Authors Room of the Library.

The BFF makes contributions to other educational and charitable institutions on a very selective basis. Unsolicited requests will be reviewed, but the modest resources of the BFF make it unlikely that projects outside of the Foundation°s planned scope will be funded.
